Hamman and Emmons Score Tour Wins
The G-Cue Billiard Store Diamond Pool Tour returned to the Phoenix area, after stops in Tucson and Las Vegas, with 29 players at Main Street Billiards in Mesa, Az on September 9th and 10th. This event saw Mike Hamman better his second place finish from Tucson, and earn his first win of the season.
Hamman made his way through the winner’s side with a run of hard found victories. Hamman defeated Ray Robles, Alex Esparza, Carl Stewart and Kevin Nguyen with an average score differential of just 2 games.
The other side of the winner’s bracket saw Manny Luevano with an equally tough string of opponents including Mike Kennedy, Bob Hillen, Dave Mark and Miguel Maldonado.
The hot-seat match couldn’t have been any closer, with Hamman scoring a hill-hill win for his first tour hot-seat.
Miguel Maldonado had lost to Luevano 8-6 in their winner’s side match, and he dropped the semi-final match to Luevano by the same 8-6 score.
The double elimination finals went two sets, as Luevano scored a 9-5 win in the first set, but dropped the second set to Hamman 9-7.
Sunday’s open event saw Bobby Emmons turn in an undefeated performance for his second tour stop win of the season. Emmons scored three straight hill-hill wins on the winner’s side (Ruben Silva, Tim Daniel and Gus Briseno) to take the hot-seat.
Briseno sent Tim Daniel home in 3rd place with a 10-5 scoreline, but Emmons scored a dominating 10-4 win in the first (and only) set of the finals, for first place.
